BBVA grants the 3rd INTEGRA Award to Biscay-based company Lantegi Batuak


BBVA has granted the 3rd INTEGRA Award to Biscay-based company Lantegi Batuak, a Special Job Center set up to promote equal opportunities and improve quality of life for disabled people. This award, which is part of the BBVA INTEGRA Plan and includes €200,000 in prize money, aims to promote excellence and innovation in social venture and in employment integration for disabled people. It also promotes equal opportunities and improves quality of life for disabled people.

The award was first granted in 2009. It is a BBVA initiative to acknowledge the work of non-profit making organizations or self-employed entrepreneurs who undertake employment integration projects for disabled people and promote initiatives and good practices in this field. Lantegi Batuak is the third winner of this award, worth €200,000.

There were 196 candidates for the award, who were judged by a jury made up of José María Ibáñez (Federación Empresarial Española de Asociaciones de Centros Especiales de Empleo – FEACEM), Luis Cayo Pérez (Comité Español de Representantes de Personas con Discapacidad – CERMI), Alberto Durán (Fundación ONCE), Enrique Galván (Confederación Española de Organizaciones a favor de las Personas con Discapacidad Intelectual – FEAPS), Pedro S. Moyano (Confederación Española de Personas con Discapacidad Física y Orgánica – COCEMFE), Pablo Gómez (Asociación de Centros Especiales de Empleo de Enfermos Mentales – ADECEM), Anna Cohí (Asociación FEAFES Integración Laboral – FEAFES Empleo), Fernando Rey (amadip.esment, winner of the INTEGRA award in 2010) and Patricia Bueno, Director of Corporate Responsibility and Reputation at BBVA, who chaired the jury.

The winner has spent more than 25 years creating innovative and first-rate employment opportunities for disabled people adapted to each group’s abilities, with a highly professional business model in the disabled sector.

The center currently provides jobs for more than 2,200 people with intellectual disabilities (70%), physical disabilities (25%) and mental illnesses (5%). The jury highlighted the fact that the company gives personalized and outstanding treatment to its employees. The company has successfully combined its social and employment integration work with a profitable corporate vision.

Lantegi Batuak has 20 centers in the Biscay province and different lines of business, ranging from the industrial sector and environmental services, to documentary management using new technologies (digitalization, office management, shredding, etc.), catering (home catering for the elderly and/or dependents, hostels, etc.) and assistive services (hire of/guidance with technical aids and assistive devices).

Other winning initiatives

The 3rd BBVA INTEGRA Award also highlighted the work of another six innovative projects, with awards worth up to €50,000 euros each. The following initiatives were rewarded for their work to improve the quality of life of disabled people:

  • Federación de Asociaciones de Personas con Discapacidad Física y Orgánica de la Comunidad de Madrid (FAMMA-Cocemfe Madrid) for its project entitled PREDIS, Programa de Reinserción Sociolaboral para Personas con Discapacidad (Social and Employment Re-Integration Program for Disabled People)
  • Centro Especial de Empleo de la Asociación de Tutores y Amigos del Centro San Cebrián (ATACES C.E.E. “San Cebrián”) for its project entitled Transporte, Recogida y Valorización del aceite vegetal usado (Transport, Collection and Assessment of used vegetable oil)
  • Centro Andaluz de Integración Laboral Unificada S.L. (CAILU), for its project entitled “HYPATIA”, Inserción socio laboral de Mujeres con Discapacidad Víctimas de Violencia de Género en el Sector de Gestión Documental y Digitalización Certificada (Social and Employment Integration of Disabled Victims of Gender-based Violence in the Documentary Management and Certified Digitalization Sector)
  • Centro Especial de Empleo Manantial Integra vinculado a la enfermedad mental, for its project entitled Ampliación de planta de los laboratorios (Enlargement of laboratory plant)
  • SALARCA sociedad cooperativa de iniciativa social, for its project entitled Innovación y Sostenibilidad: una apuesta de creación de empleo en el medio rural (Innovation and Sustainability: committed to creating jobs in rural areas)
  • Fundosa Accesibilidad (Vía Libre), for its project entitled Accesibilidad en medios de comunicación. Las nuevas tecnologías y la accesibilidad claves para personas con discapacidad (Accessibility in the media. New technologies and key accessibility for disabled people).

The awards will be handed out at a public ceremony in May or June.
